It is with great sadness that we share the news of Jean Murray’s passing. After serving as a crossing guard for 18 years, Jean became Hamden’s Animal Control Officer in 1979 where she faithfully remained until her retirement in 2006. During her 27 years at Hamden Animal Control, Jean worked passionately on behalf of lost, abandoned, and neglected animals – who could not help themselves. Sanctioned by then-Mayor Amento, she co-founded the Happy Tails organization with Dolores Giannini in hopes of establishing a Hamden Animal Shelter. Unfortunately, she did not see her dream come to fruition. Gimme Shelter extends its deepest sympathy to Joe, Jim, and the entire Murray family.
